UTM Examples for YouTube

Track links in video descriptions, channel pages, end screens, and creator partnerships.

A video description link might use:

utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=product_launch&utm_content=description_link

Use a different content value for channel_link, end_screen, or pinned_comment. For creator campaigns, source can identify the creator while medium remains influencer.

Keep descriptions readable and test the link on mobile. Generate it with the BestUTM builder.

Use content for the location inside YouTube

A description link, channel link, pinned comment, and end-screen link can share the same campaign while using different content values. This makes the link list readable and keeps the campaign grouped.

Test links on mobile because many YouTube visits happen in a mobile app context.

Before publishing

Check that the destination page is the one intended for this audience and that the final URL contains the same values shown in the campaign plan. A link can be syntactically valid and still point to the wrong product, offer, or market.

Save the decision

Keep this pattern in a shared campaign document so the next person can create a matching link without guessing. The goal is not to create more parameters; it is to make the same reporting decision repeatable.

Example video launch

Use utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=feature_launch&utm_content=description_link for the main description. A pinned comment can use pinned_comment as content while remaining part of the same launch.

Make sure the landing page matches the video’s promise; good attribution cannot repair a mismatched destination.
